Project: Joy of Sharing

Shridevi E. M. (GMIT College)

Shridevi, along with her friends Suma, Nisha, Jeevika, and Divya, visited an orphanage, hoping to engage the children and lift their spirits.  To get the children to come out of their comfort zones, Shridevi and her friends played games with them, told them inspirational stories, and conducted other activities.  As the session continued, Shridevi asked the children to share about their personal dreams and aspirations.  The children admitted that they were not sure as to how to go about pursuing their dreams, so the LEADers gave them career guidance.  

Through her actions, Shridevi showed the children that knowledge is power, and that that power becomes strong only when it is shared.  

Project: Back to School

Prithviraj K. (SKVMCT)

Prithviraj re-instilled an interest in education in 10 dropout children from a slum near Hubli.  Because of Prithviraj’s efforts, nine students returned to school.  The children’s parents were very pleased that their children will have more opportunities, and these children now have the chance to create a bright future for themselves.  

Project: The Art of Map Reading for Primary School Children

Geetha V. Oli (KSW University, Bijapur)

Geetha taught map reading to 34 students that had dropped out of school in order to re-instill their interest in education.  Those 34 students returned to school.  Additionally, the 34 students took further initiative and divided themselves into groups to teach map reading to over 100 children in 5 government schools throughout Bijapur. 

Project: Joy of Giving Week

Sagar Agarwal (GIT)

Sagar wanted to help older aged people.  To accomplish this, he created a team to raise funds for older people.  LEAD funded Rs 500 for his project, but Sagar’s team was able to raise Rs 25000, and donated the raised money to Priva Darshani Eye Care to treat 13 older citizens.  In addition to the older citizens that benefitted from his project, Sagar also inspired three other students, who in turn started leading their own projects. 

Project: Counseling Slum Dwellers

Alisha Silledar (KLECT)

Alisha noticed the very serious problem of drop out children living in slums.  She took initiative and approached several drop out students.  Alisha not only taught them the importance of education, but she also encouraged them to return to school and complete their studies.  Because of Alisha’s efforts, five students returned to school.

Project: A Message of Morality Through Books

LEADer: Maithri Mahesh

LEADer Maithri, a student of GMIT, has a passion for reading. She has taken a lead to cultivate the habit of reading to orphan kids. She first made a list of the best books and purchased them. One fine day, she went to the orphanage and distributed the books to students and motivated them to read.Students who never had a taste for reading, now they are showing interest to read such books in coming days. She and her friends are successful in making them understand the value for knowledge. She has taken classes to make them read and understand moral books and distributed freely for further reading.

Project: Environmental Awareness

The team designed cardboards and wrote quotes on them, then placed them on tree trunks around campus to raise environmental awareness.

SDM Leadership Camp, 27-28 Oct

On 27^th and 28^th of October, 2012 SDM Leadership Camp was conducted and hosted by SDMCET Dharwad, a partnering college of LEAD. Out of 200 LEAD members, 45 best members were chosen for the Camp. LEAD members who had completed their one project or have shown leadership abilities during the period were selected for this camp. SDMCET, KLEIT, BVBCET, SKSVMACET(Agadi)-Laxmeshwar, Government Engineering College Haveri, Karnataka Science College Dharwad and DET's MSE students participated in this camp.

The objective of the camp was to bring excitement among participants, to help them to understand theirhidden talent, thought process on Innovative Ideas, Leadership skills,Time management, Think out of the box, Build Positivity, Learn Creativity through Art and Team building.

Ajay Suman Shukla and Abhinandan co-ordinated the overall Camp along with the SDM Leaders Govind, Manish, Kamlesh and LEAD Team members Radhakrishna, Geeta, Prashant, Vinod and Amrut were the key resource person. Mr. Prashant Dhargawe and Sharika Savkar from LEAD Nashik also took part in this camp.

 27^th October, First day first sessions started with understanding the expectations of all the participants. Later based on the expectation, activities were organized to understand the team dynamics, team work, team building and coordination followed by Art and Creative Sessions.

Second Session was with vibrant presentation by Mr. Prashant Deshpande on Leadership Quality. This session included with outdoor activities on concentration and effective listening.

Scavenger Hunt and Presentation was organized at the SDM venue to make students understand the group dynamics. This was followed with a competition with 5 groups and winner group was selected based on team performance and craziest Ideas.

The day ended with Fun filled activities at SDM with delicious food but participants continued till mid night by sharing their experience of the day and fun activities.

28^th October Second day, beginning with Surya Namaskara and outdoor activities such as dog in the bowl was taken place followed by an game activity was conducted to forgo egoness and further students were divided into 5groups and Self-Realization activity was conducted and a session was taken by Vinod Kumar with lots of Q&A which made students to realize and come out of their comfort zone, which had a very positive interaction group wise and also one on one session after the post lunch. Self realization activity was as combination of interactive session with few inspiring and mesmerizing videos which madeeveryone to think and keep innovation on everyone’s mind.

Second session was taken over by Amrut with an activity of business plan coming up with innovative ideas on the topics given to all the groups. Groups were asked to come up with innovative and crazy ideas on the product given to the team with a marketing strategy to be presented as a team. Presentation was judged by the team work, co-ordination, presentation skills, communication skills, innovative features and performance in Q&A session.

The Day was concluded by judging all the activities and by providing the necessary feedbacks to the students and followed by vote of thanks.

Laxmeshwar Leadership Camp

 On October 6th and 7th a two days leadership camp was hosted in Laxmeshwar, Gadag by SKSVM Agadi College of Engineering and Technology, a LEAD partnering college. 45 participants participated in the camp from Laxmeshwar, Dharwad, Hubli, Davangere, Hulkoti and Sirsi colleges. The objective of the camp was to bring the excitement among participants, help them to understand their leadership skills, how can they overcome from their own inferiority, building the positivity, learning creativity through art and understand team building.

Mr. Ajay Suman Shukla coordinated the overall camp along with the facilitators Radhakrishna, Geeta, Kavita and Vijay. First day started with understanding the expectations of all the participants from these two days later various activities were taken to understand the team dynamics, team work, team building and coordination in team. Second half was full with art, drawing and clours. All the participants recalled their childhood memories to make the drawing collage on the theme of environment, leadership and Gandhi Ji. All the six teams were quite different in drawing the same given topics. At later evening session, participants understood the term “who is a real leader” and “what is leadership” with practical activities done individually and in groups.

 Second day of the camp started early morning 5:30am with Yoga session for two hours, many asanas were taught with the benefits on body of each of them. Second session was a team work of scavenger hunt in the college campus followed with making a new venture plan that can make profit. In post lunch session participants were given insight and practical assignment of understanding their social identity in the society that is GIVEN, CHOSEN and exist into their CORE of life. Participants were able to understand the importance of their different identities and whether it is supporting them to build up their leadership abilities or not? Next activity was in the same follow up to help participants understand effective leadership through given pictures.

At the end there was a good binding among participants came from different locations and all were very much confident and positive for their upcoming actions.

The appreciating factor of this camp was that it was hosted by college and all the necessary arrangements of stay, food, facilities were taken care by existing leaders of the college. SKSVMACET Leaders Vijay Matti, Raghavendra and Ashwini Moolimani were into key role for making all the arrangements of the camp. 

Project: Anna Hazare Signature Campaign

Ananth was inspired by Anna Hazare’s fight against corruption and hence took up this project. Dividing the work between members, the team went to each class and convinced the students to participate in this signature campaign. 1300 students and 20 faculties of the college participated in this campaign and signed their signature on a large piece of white cloth, which the team then dispatched to Delhi.

At first, when Ananth discussed the idea with the principal he was little bit hesitate to give permission because they were a government college. But Ananth convince him and after that he encouraged the team and made other faculties of the college get involved in this campaign.

A new era of Leadership

15^th August reminds of all freedom fighters and independence. But for us LEAD,Leaders of Deshpande Foundation comes into our mind, As we hoisted Indian Flag on 15^th August, it was all schedule to go for LEAD-5 kickoff. Mr.Radhakrishna gave warm welcome to crowd. Mr.Ajay introduced the journey of lead-4 and he also showed the light on performance of LEAD team. LEADers from different lead locations shared their experiences in their Lead journey. Deepak Giriyapur, Master Leader, presented a video on journey of LEAD-4 & video on incredible India. Mr Naveen Jha motivated the young LEADers by his inspiring words. This was followed by launching of our new website www.leadcampus.org and inauguration of LEAD banner 2012.LEAD 5 jounery begun with the lamping of lights.
