On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, People purchase Ganesha
idols as a tradition and the custom. LEader Mahesh, from JG College of Commerce
identified that most of the people celebrate the festival, Ganesh
Chaturthi with full zeal and joy but end up polluting water due to the idols
which are not eco friendly. On the previous day of Ganesh Chaturthi, we visited
Ganesha idol manufacturers where they prepare idols with plaster of paris and
chemicals which are dangerous to the environment and nature.
We requested the
people to prepare the idols with soil and natural colour or water colours. On
the day of Ganesh Chaturthi we visited the shop at Jaya Nagar, Hubli and
requested the people to purchase the Eco friendly Ganesha idols and also
educated the people to do the visarjan without polluting the water. I pasted
the pamphlet about the procedure of doing visarjan with the help of Bucket and
water. We also went door to door requesting people to follow the same
procedure.
The people took the initiative to use the common tank to drown the Ganesha Idols and
avoided water been polluted in lakes and wells. People of Jaya Nagar were happy with Mahesh and cooperated
with him by supporting his initiative.
