Jugaad Activity with 12 DFP Fellows: 50+ Projects Constructed

The motto ‘innovate or die’ was what drove Deshpande Fellowship Program (DFP) Fellows into a whirlwind of creativity, collaboration, exploration and transformation as these students participated in Jugaad LEAD activites on Friday, November 14th 2014. ‘Innovate faster, better, and cheaper—or die’ was the mantra for these 12 Fellows who, with their R&D, created an inspiring collection of inventions made of waste material. These Fellows constructed 50+ projects, formed from their innovative ideas. They utilized resources people usually label as waste to create new, magnificent items such as flower pots from disposed water bottles, study lamp from wooden panels, computers covers from used chart papers, and more. This is a sure example of how changing our attitude about the things we are surrounded by can help us change our world.

                                                                      

         

DFP Cohort 12 Students Tackle Community Issues in Hubli

Leaders/Fellows of Deshpande Fellowship Program Cohort 12 were out in the city of Hubli on the 6th of November, in effort to help solve local community problems. Due to their commitment and hard work, 60 fellows were able to identify 180+ key problems the community faces, raise awareness of such issues and provide fast solutions for them, all within 6 hours.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
                                                                   

The projects included creating awareness among public and shopkeepers about proper hygiene, advising on usage of public assets, closing a dangerous manhole, encouraging public to clean the drainage system, raising funds and resources from the local residents, educating on the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public areas and disposing plastic waste properly, raising complaints in the municipal corporation for some of the community problems and following up with them, conducting sessions for school children about personal hygiene, educating Anganavadi teachers on keeping hazardous materials away from kids so they can mitigate the risk, and so many more.
