Project Leader: Vijay Mahantesh
Place: Bijapur
Funds Raised: INR 3500
Vijay Mahantesh’s efforts to help the flood victims of North Karnataka have been lauded and appreciated by all. Though his schedule was packed with fast approaching exams, he decided to work for the cause of the needy. The team of five garnered support from about ten students of the college who volunteered.
Due to insufficient time, the team decided to approach a few colleges in the neighbourhood to collect funds. The fundraising campaign started at Vijay's own college, where he first approached the Principal to contribute. Things took shape as the faculty also supported the campaign and made genuine contributions. The response from the students was overwhelming too.
The team’s effort collected a total of INR 3500 in just two days. The team handed over the fund to the Principal who in turn presented it to the District Commissioner. Amidst praises, the fundraising campaign made it to the newspapers.
He took the second initiative under LEAD to sharpen the mental ability and skills of students up to class 8. He conducted inter-school quiz competitions to facilitate the learning process of the students. He ensured that the students were exposed to the practical approach of thinking out of the box. The intention was to make the students open and comfortable to such competitions. The prizes were sponsored by locals who were convinced by Vijay to be a part of the event.
Vijay, whose stint with LEAD happens to be accidental, says, “My journey with LEAD as a LEADer, campus ambassador of KCP College, and co-ordinator for Bijapur gave me lot of experience. It was very difficult to communicate with LEADers from other colleges and facilitate them along with my studies. I cannot remember how I did all these things, but I can say that LEAD taught me how to manage all these."
He dedicates his selection to the Wipro Academy of Software Excellence (WASE) Programme, offered by WIPRO in association with BITS Pilani to LEAD, which inspired him to be a true leader and think high. It was the narration of his stint at LEAD during the interview that helped him pursue his Masters in Software Engineering. He is grateful to LEAD for making him a true leader in all capacities as he continues to work with the same leadership approach.
