Ramesh Bhat (Govt First Grade College)

In the Chukimat area, families used to dispose of their waste outside of their homes, creating many negative effects for the surrounding environment.  Ramesh wrote a poem about the importance of waste segregation and then distributed the poem to 20 families in the community.  He also created healthy competition within the community and encouraged families to dispose of their waste as efficiently as possible.  He additionally introduced the idea of using biogas as an alternative, and more sustainable, source of energy.  After seeing the positive results of his work, the Local Municipal offered to expand Ramesh’s project throughout all of Sirsi.  The project, costing only Rs. 150, impacted the livelihoods of 20 families.
