Belgaum LEADer Creates Safer and Cost-Effective Ranging Rods to Protect Road Surveyers

Have you ever thought of surveying a road with a plastic pipe? Probably not, as roads are generally surveyed using rods made from iron or steel.  The problem, though, with these metal rods is that they can lead to severe injuries if workers are using them during rain storms.  To help protect these workers in the future, Belgaum LEADer Santosh Patil from Jain College of Engineering came up with the idea to make the same kind of ranging rods using PVC and fiber pipes.  As PVC and fiber pipes are insulators (or non-conducting materials), they do not attract electricity, meaning the risk of injuries for using these pipes during rain storms is nonexistent.  What's more, Santosh's rods cost Rs.200 less  than their metal counterparts.
