LEAD Valedictory, Laxmeshwar

The 2013 LEAD Valedictory, Laxmeshwar function was held on May 7th, 2013 to commemorate 50 LEADers from SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar on their year-long efforts. This celebratory event attracted and unified over 250 students and their parents, as well as over 20 faculty members.
  
LEAD (LEaders Accelerating Development Program) aims to develop leadership, problem solving, and entrepreneurial skills through an innovative approach within college students.  Through funding, support, and guidance from the LEAD team at the Deshpande Foundation, LEADers implement projects to create solutions for unresolved problems in their communities.

Since LEAD started working with the college in August 2012, 67 projects have been completed.  LEADer Manoj said that the students' goal for next year is to complete 100 projects.



Honorable guests of LEAD Valedictory included Dr. Neelam Maheshwari (Director of Grants, Deshpande Foundation), Dr. Arun Patil (Director, SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar), Dr. Ashok Chapgaon (Principal, SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar), and Dr. S. V. Gorbal (Vice Principal, SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar).


Special awards were presented to various students and faculty members who demonstrated exceptional leadership, projects, and support.  The LEAD Valedictory function award categories and recipients are listed below:

Dr. Neelam Maheshwari (Director of Grants, Deshpande Foundation) inspired the LEADers by speaking about the power and potential of the youth to instigate positive change in India.  She told the students, “In India, in a few years, 50% of the population will be made of young people.  In a few years, you will be running the country.  To run the country, you need to have fantastic leadership skills…Students who have participated in activities like LEAD, students who can mobilize their own potential, are going to be more successful.”


A few LEADers were then given the opportunity to speak about how LEAD encouraged their personal growth and development.


The 2013 LEAD Valedictory Function honored not only the LEADers and their projects, but it also celebrated the power of youth, leadership, and initiative.

LEAD Valedictory Nidasoshi and Chikodi

The 2013 LEAD Valedictory, Nidasoshi and Chikodi function was held on May 7th, 2013, at SJPN Trust’s HIT College in Nidashoshi to commemorate LEADers throughout the Nidashoshi and Chikodi regions on their year-long efforts. This celebratory event attracted and unified over 150 students, as well as six faculty members, from throughout seven different colleges.

C. Hiremath (Principal, SJPN Trust’s HIT College, Nidasoshi), Prof. G. B. Sangote (Principal, SJPN Trust’s Polytechnic College, Nidasoshi), Dr. Basavaraj Katageri (Principal, KLECET College, Chikkodi), and Dr. S. B. Hagaragi (Principal, KLE’s BK College, Chikkodi).



Prior to the function, the guests were invited to view project displays and talk to LEADers about their different initiatives.


The event began with an introduction by Mr. Ajay Suman Shukla who spoke about the tremendous growth and success that the LEAD program has experienced in the past five years since its inception.

Mr. Naveen Jha (CEO, Deshpande Foundation) then opened the forum and allowed for the audience to ask him questions.  The purpose for this, he claimed, was because “Asking questions is the prime indicator of curious minds.  For leadership, you must have a curious mind.” He also inspired the LEADers by speaking about the power and potential of the youth to instigate positive change in India.  According to him, "There are 300 million youth in India right now..we have lots of problems, but problems create opportunities…If you want to be a leader, then you need to step up.”

LEAD Valedictory Hubli-Dharwad, Sirsi, Gadag, Laxmeshwar, and Hulkoti




The 2013 LEAD Valedictory function was held on May 6th, 2013, at the Deshpande Foundation in Hubli to commemorate LEADers throughout the Hubli-Dharwad, Sirsi, Gadag, Laxmeshwar, and Hulkoti regions on their year-long efforts. This celebratory event attracted and unified over 250 students and their parents, as well as 12 faculty members, from throughout 15 different colleges.

2013 LEAD Chitradurga and Davangere Valedictory




The 2013 LEAD Chitradurga and Davangere Valedictory Function was held on April 27th, 2013, at Davangere University to commemorate 100 LEADers on their year-long efforts throughout the Chitradurga and Davangere regions.  This celebratory event attracted and unified over 250 students and their parents, as well as 10 faculty members, from throughout eight different colleges. 

Honorable guests included Mr. Naveen Jha (CEO, Deshpande Foundation), Smt S Indumati (Vice Chancellor, Davangere University), Dr. S Prakash (Registrar, Davangere University), Dr. B S Shiv Kumar (Principal, SJMIT College, Chitradurga), Professor Y Vrushabendrappa (Director, BIET College, Davangere), Dr. Rama Swamy (Principal, BIET College, Davangere), Professor Eshwarappa (Principal, DRM College), and Mr. H B Manjunath (Media Head, Davangere University).

The event began with an introduction by Mr. Ajay Suman Shukla (Team Leader, LEAD), who spoke about the tremendous growth and success that the LEAD program has experienced in the past five years since its inception. 

A few LEADers were given the opportunity to speak about how LEAD encouraged their personal growth and development. Chaitra of DRM Science College has implemented multiple projects with LEAD.  Chaitra told the audience that because of his active participation in the LEAD program, his "self confidence and communication skills have increased.".  Rakesh Kulkarni of BIET College, Davangere also noticed a drastic change in his communication skills thanks to the LEAD program, saying that "Before joining LEAD, I had trouble interacting with people, even my own friends.  Now I can interact with everybody."



Smt S Indumati (Vice Chancellor, Davangere University) presented a motivational speech about the importance of extending leadership outside of the LEAD program and projects.   She told the LEADers, "You have to care for your own society.  Try to educate people, try to make them learn...You should be the leaders of your family.  You should be the leaders of your mind.  You should be the leaders of your society."
