LEAD Valedictory, Laxmeshwar

The 2013 LEAD Valedictory, Laxmeshwar function was held on May 7th, 2013 to commemorate 50 LEADers from SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar on their year-long efforts. This celebratory event attracted and unified over 250 students and their parents, as well as over 20 faculty members.
  
LEAD (LEaders Accelerating Development Program) aims to develop leadership, problem solving, and entrepreneurial skills through an innovative approach within college students.  Through funding, support, and guidance from the LEAD team at the Deshpande Foundation, LEADers implement projects to create solutions for unresolved problems in their communities.

Since LEAD started working with the college in August 2012, 67 projects have been completed.  LEADer Manoj said that the students' goal for next year is to complete 100 projects.



Honorable guests of LEAD Valedictory included Dr. Neelam Maheshwari (Director of Grants, Deshpande Foundation), Dr. Arun Patil (Director, SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar), Dr. Ashok Chapgaon (Principal, SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar), and Dr. S. V. Gorbal (Vice Principal, SKSVMACET, Laxmeshwar).


Special awards were presented to various students and faculty members who demonstrated exceptional leadership, projects, and support.  The LEAD Valedictory function award categories and recipients are listed below:

Dr. Neelam Maheshwari (Director of Grants, Deshpande Foundation) inspired the LEADers by speaking about the power and potential of the youth to instigate positive change in India.  She told the students, “In India, in a few years, 50% of the population will be made of young people.  In a few years, you will be running the country.  To run the country, you need to have fantastic leadership skills…Students who have participated in activities like LEAD, students who can mobilize their own potential, are going to be more successful.”


A few LEADers were then given the opportunity to speak about how LEAD encouraged their personal growth and development.


The 2013 LEAD Valedictory Function honored not only the LEADers and their projects, but it also celebrated the power of youth, leadership, and initiative.
