Project: Driving License Camp in BLDEA’s Engg.

Posted on Sunday, November 28, 2010 by LEAD

Under the initiative of LEAD (LEaders Accelerating Development) students of B.L.D.E.A’s Dr. P.G.H. Engineering College, department of architecture and B.L.D.E.A’s Polytechnic Bijapur, conducted an RTO license camp for college students to raise awareness on traffic rules and provide a driving license to qualified participants. More than 300 college students and faculty enthusiastically participated in this camp held at B.L.D.E.A’s Engineering College, Bijapur.

LEAD members Rajendra Parekh, Abhishekh Bansode, Rajeshwari Annapenavar, Roopa Chikkalgi, Praveen Biradar, Preeti Pujari, Abrar Inamdar, Caroline Joshy, Manasa Bagalkot, Namrata Mahindrakar and Nikhil G. all helped to make this an impactful effort to popularize the importance of a driving license. They identified the need of a driving license as a valid tool for proving identification for all kinds of academic and official requirements.

LEAD students from the Department of Architecture B.L.D.E.A’s college of Engineering and Technology Bijapur created a mass awareness program through playing cards, pamphlets, etc. As many as 244 students and faculty nominated their names to get the license.
Lead Members approached a Regional Transport Officer to conduct a camp inside the college. As it is tough for college students to know the process of getting a license and approaching the officers, this initiative made an amazing impact on BLDE students. The LEAD members collected all the required documents and fees for student licenses and submitted them to the RTO office. On tbe final day after getting 244 applications they conducted written exams on the campus and called RTO officer Mr. Hemadri along with other experts to deliver a session on road safety before the written exam.

In connection with the Road Safety Awareness Program, Regional Transport Officer Mr. Hemadri, Motor Vehicle Inspector Mr. Vasudeva, Mr. Sunil Metri, Maruti Driving School, and Shantesha Motors P. Ltd. Belgaum were present to teach and make the students aware of the problems arising due to lack of knowledge in road safety. RTO supported the students in getting their Learning licenses with a very informative presentation by Mr. Sunil Metri, after which a total of 191 students went through the written LLR (Learner’s License Rule) test to become officially roadworthy. It was another successful initiative of the Deshpande Foundation’s LEAD program. Daily operations are centralized in Hubli at the Deshpande Center for Social Entrepreneurship.

LEaders' Accelerating Development is a hub for today's LEADers who believe in and follow the phrase "actions speak louder than words." LEAD offers young students an opportunity to implement and experiment their ideas practically to make changes in their world. In Bijapur LEAD was introduced a year before and now has collaboration with seven colleges of the city. The aim of LEAD is to bring positive changes within the students and in local community through the initiative of young students. The program financially and logistically supports the students to promote their leadership skills.
