Art Buzz- An Interschool Drawing Competition

Interschool drawing competition was organized by LEAD (Leaders Accelerating Development) of Deshpande Foundation, Hubli on 29-11-09 in the Deshpande Foundation premises. More than 350 students from 35 schools of Hubli participated in the competition. The competition was divided into 2 groups. Group A had students of 5th – 7th with the theme Nature and Environment and Group B was for 8th- 10th with the theme Environmental pollution.
Mithali oswal from Rotary Primary School, Shazia Killedar and Akshata Kattimani bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively in ‘A’ group.
Sheetal Patil from N.K Thakkar High Shool, Satish C.S and Suhasini Hangal bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively from Group ‘B’.
A trophy was presented to the schools of 1st prize winners.
Team LEADer Dhananjay Habib from the IP Dept, BVB CET with his team mates Sumeet Ashtekar, Preeti Miskin, Rajni Habib and Pooja Sadalgi planned and executed the whole event.
Om Agencies, Baburao Bakeries and Shakti Cement supported the event through sponsorships.
B. Kotturshettar, HOD, IP Dept, BVB CET was the Chief Guest and Mr and MRS. S.P Gudi were the judges for the competition.
LEAD is an initiative by Deshpande Foundation which offers college students an opportunity to make change in their world. LEAD creates young LEADers who identify and solve the unnoticed problems of the society. Deshpande Foundation acts as a catalyst which gives financial and logistical support to the initiative taken by the students.

OASIS
Heavy rains lashed thousands of villages, made people homeless, people lost their families, everything around seemed inhuman, this was the time when student LEADers initiated the relief operation forming groups to gather all the necessary aid. When the common man realized how hard the floods had hit northern part of Karnataka, the relief material flooded in huge quantity. Realizing how connected the regional people felt about their fellow beings who suffered losses, they donated generously. From a layman to a big businessman in the city joined hands to rehabilitate the flood fatalities.OASIS…EK Umeed,
The charity cultural extravaganza was one such event organized headed by LEAD on 28th of October 2009 to thank people of Hubli for their generosity. The show began with welcoming the crowd by the anchors Chaitra and Soumya. The guests of honor for the evening were, J K group of institutions’ chairman Shri Jagdish Kallyanshettar and the director of DCSE Mr. Naveen Jha. Various dance performances and skits were staged by the colleges of Hubli like KLE’s CBA, JGCC, PC JABIN, FATIMA, JAIN college, oxford BBA. Each skit had its own theme depicting various evils of the society and about how the system worked. In such situation it was also showcased that youth needed to take initiation in eradicating the social evils and LEAD program supported such initiatives taken. The dances and role plays were judged by the judges for the show, Mr Sunil the choreographer of “TALENTS” fame in Hubli..

LEAD Awards
LEAD is going to organize LEAD Awards as a part of its regular activities in which best LEADers will be awarded based on their achievements. The Awards are a great source of encouragement to our young LEADers. This is going to be the first awarding ceremony in LEAD09 for which nearly 150 LEADers will be competing. Recently the sortlisted candidates were called to give their presentation which was held at IMSR Auditorium.
Here are the criteria for the best LEADer awards.
The ceremony will be held on 21st of November in DCSE Auditorium.

- Number of LEADershifts : It refers to the no. of the team-mates of a LEADer who became a LEADer.
- Media Coverage of the project.

Short Movie Making Competition



LEAD recently hosted one of the most exciting events, “The short movie making competition”. The competition was conducted in order to hunt the talent in acting, editing and script writing. The announcement of the event made on 25-09-09. Students from more than 10 colleges of Hubli-Dharwad region participated enthusiastically in the event with their creative videos. . One had to make a videothat could be of any topic with time period of equal to or less than 25 minutes. There were altogether 22 movie entries. Mr. Emil and Ms. Tripti were invited as judges for the competition. Mr. Emil Kuruvilla, presently working in Deshpande Foundation as Sandbox fellow-Media, before coming to Hubli Kuruvilla worked in Los Angeles in educational television. He created short commercials and documentaries that addressed social subject. The screening of the movies was done on 25-10-09 where the best 6 movies for the below mentioned categories were chosen by the jury. The final showcasing was done in DCSE Auditorium on 27-10-09. Mr.Naveen Jha, the director (DCSE, Hubli) was invited as the chief guest, where he gave away the prizes for these categories.

Project Description: "We the students of A.M.V came up with an idea to develop a medical garden within our campus. Our objective was to give the right information to the students about the medical usages of the plants and its uses, by mentioning its botanical name, its family and its chemical composition. To implement this project we used some unusable tin materials and painted the botanical name and its chemical compositions of the particular plant and its usages. We divided the whole garden into plots and renovated the whole garden and planted some medical plants. The project has a very good follow up by the students."
